Thomas’s plan for Bexley and Bromley
1. Reverse ULEZ and Stop Pay-Per-Mile Road Charging
Labour extended ULEZ to Outer London despite Transport for London’s own report concluding it would have a negligible impact on air quality. I want to see this cash-grab reversed and will campaign to stop Labour’s plans to introduce Pay-per-Mile road charging to London.
2. Keep Our Neighbourhood Police in the Neighbourhood
Our hard-working local police officers are pulled away to central London too often. We need our police in the communities they serve. I want to see local police bases opened in towns like West Wickham, Penge, Chislehurst, Sidcup
3. Improve Public Transport Connectivity
Cities are built on their public transport networks and Outer London is missing out. I will lobby for improved connectivity across Bexley and Bromley. Campaigning to get the DLR extended to Thamesmead and Belvedere, the Elizabeth line extended to Ebbsfleet via Erith, to restore lost services to London Bridge and Cannon Street, and to improve bus services to our rural communities like Biggin Hill, Keston and Downe. I also want to reduce the number of diesel buses operating on our roads by replacing them with new electric buses.
4. Affordable, Appropriate and Fairer Housing
We need new houses for local families. The Mayor’s London plan favours 2-bedroom flats, the kind of houses developers want to build not the family homes we desperately need. I want housing to appropriate to the local area and affordable to local people. I also support reforms to the rental sector to make renting fairer.
5. Support Jobs and Opportunities across Bexley and Bromley
My Dad learnt his trade through an apprenticeship in Bexleyheath. I will support job creation across both our boroughs to keep our local economy as resilient as possible. I want there to be the opportunities for local young people to achieve their goals in life.
6. Protect our local Parks, Open Spaces and Green Belt
Our local parks, open spaces and green belt is a big reason why people why to live in Bexley and Bromley. It helps keep our air clean, supports biodiversity, keep our area beautiful and, contribute towards making communities across Bexley and Bromley so special.
About Thomas
Thomas lives in Shortlands, Bromley, with his wife Gemma and their two cats. His dad was raised in Belvedere, where generations of the family have lived.
He has been a London renter for over a decade has worked in the financial services sector for close to ten years. Most recently Thomas worked in sustainable investing.
Thomas has always played an active role in the community, as a School Governor, NHS Foundation Trust Governor and as a trustee of a number of charities, including Vice-Chair and Treasurer of a national charity with a multi-million-pound budget. Before entering politics Thomas was a transport campaigner, successfully campaigning for more capacity on crowded bus routes, including by securing a whole new route. He also founded a local Rail Users Group.
Since 2022 he has served on Bromley Council, representing Hayes and Coney Hall ward. He was Executive Assistant for the Environment Portfolio between 2022-24, where he was responsible for the multi-million investment into Kelsey Park. He has also been Vice-Chairman of the Renewal, Recreation and Housing Scrutiny Committee.
As a Councillor he has campaigned to re-open local police bases, helped secure additional resource for neighbourhood police teams to tackle speeding, helped get funding for improvements to shopping parades, been campaigning for barriers at Hayes station and campaigned against the loss of Cannon Street services.
