It has recently come to light that Newsquest plans to cut the number of staff working at the News Shopper and close its Petts Wood office, something many local people, especially the paper’s dedicated readership, are understandably worried about. You can read more about the details of the proposal through the link below:
Following the News Shopper’s strike on Monday and Tuesday, I was keen to write to Gary Kendall, the Managing Director of Newsquest, to lay out my own concerns of what a sudden reorganisation could mean for the local press. I have attached a copy of my letter at the bottom of the page.
The News Shopper is a quality local paper that I know is much loved and relied upon by the Bromley community. It helps keep people informed, ensures those of us who are elected are held to account, and encourages community engagement, something that makes Bromley and Chislehurst thrive.
As I understand it, some progress appears to have been made, and I hope that a satisfactory solution will be found as soon as possible. I will continue to do what I can to support the News Shopper, and will post updates on my website as and when they become available.
