Early this year a planning application was submitted to Bromley Council proposing to convert the vacant hairdressers on Mottingham Road to a sports bar. It is a proposal I know has generated a lot of concern in the community, and was something many residents were keen to discuss on the doorstep during the General Election campaign.
The proposals are wholly unsuitable on a number of grounds. There are real fears about the impact it could have on neighbouring properties, including Mottingham library a few doors away; its potential to generate traffic on an already busy road; and its basic failure to serve the needs or wishes of the local community. There are also questions about the quality of the application submitted.
In May I supported the Mottingham Residents’ Association (MRA) and local councillors in opposing the proposals, writing to the Chief Planning Officer to set out my views further (copy attached below), and was pleased to see the application turned down by officers yesterday. This was the right decision for the community, and I will continue to monitor the situation closely in case an appeal is lodged.
