I am delighted by today’s news that Bullers Wood School for Boys has been granted permission to temporarily use the site at 1 Westmoreland Road. This is a really positive step forward for the pupils, parents, and families who have campaigned assiduously for the new school, and is the result of months of hard work from everyone involved.
As I set out in my own submission to the Council (available below), this is a modest solution that enjoys significant support across our community. I am confident it will provide the school and its pupils with a comfortable home whilst permanent accommodation is sought.
My priority is to continue working with the Council, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), and local residents to secure a permanent scheme on the St Hugh’s playing fields that is agreeable to as many people as possible, addressing both the pressure on local secondary school places, as well as the concerns raised by residents who live in the immediate vicinity of the site.
