After a long campaign, I am very pleased to have received notification this morning that the Bullers Wood School for Boys appeal at St Hugh’s playing fields has been granted by the Planning Inspectorate, securing a permanent home for the school.
I set out clearly in my letter to the Inspector in August why I believe this is the right decision (copy attached below), not least given the pressure on local school places. I am therefore grateful for the speed with which this decision has been reached, providing peace of mind, and a very welcome early Christmas present, for the pupils, parents and staff of Bullers Wood School for Boys.
This would not have been possible without the hard work and sheer determination of everyone involved, including the parents’ campaign group, the Bromley Town councillors – Nicky Dykes, Will Harmer and Michael Rutherford – as well as Peter Fortune, the Deputy Leader of the Council and Education Portfolio Holder.
Over the coming months I’ll continue working with the Education and Skills Funding Agency to ensure this project keeps moving in the right direction, both in terms of the plans currently being consulted on for the temporary, interim facilities at St Hugh’s, as well as the permanent school that was the focus of this appeal.
